How to Install Kali Linux in VMware?

Introduction:

Kali Linux is a popular Linux distribution that is widely used for penetration testing and digital forensics. A virtual machine is a virtual simulated environment as opposed to a physical environment. Kali Linux is available as a prebuilt virtual machine that can be run in VMware on Windows. Here are the steps to install Kali Linux prebuilt virtual machine in VMware on Windows :-

Note: Before following the given steps you need to confirmed that virtualization is enabled for your system if not then go to the system BIOS and enable the virtualization option.

Step 1: Download the Kali Linux

The first step is to download the Kali Linux prebuilt virtual machine for VMware from the official Kali Linux website – kali.org. and download it by selecting the appropriate architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).

Step 2: Download VMware

Go to the VMware website and download the latest version of VMware for your Windows operating system. Once the download is complete, install VMware on your computer.

Step 3: Import Kali Linux into VMware

Open VMware and click on “Open a Virtual Machine” on the home screen or select “File” > “Open…” from the menu. Navigate to the location where you extract the downloaded zip-file and select the virtual machine file with the extension “.vmx”. Click “Open” to load the virtual machine.

Step 4: Configure the virtual machine settings

By selecting “Edit virtual machine settings”, you can configure the virtual machine settings such as the name, location, and disk size according to your needs. You can also customize the hardware settings such as the number of CPU cores, the amount of RAM and change the network adapter.

Step 5: Power on the virtual machine

After the import process is complete, select the Kali Linux virtual machine from the VMware home screen and click “Play virtual machine” to power it on.

Step 6: Log in to Kali Linux

Once the virtual machine is powered on, it will boot up into Kali Linux. You can log in using the default username “kali” and password “kali”. Note that it is recommended to change the password after the first login.

Note: It is important to keep your Kali Linux installation updated with the latest security patches and software updates. Additionally, it is recommended to change the default username and password to ensure the security of your virtual machine.
